Scratchmasta’ Jazzy G’ – Biography 2010
Born in the South Bronx, Scratchmasta’ Jazzy G began spinning records at the tender age of just 12 years old. His initial curiosity came after watching a local DJ crew called C.C. & Company (COOL CLEE, DR. DUSS, JAZZY J, TROY ROY, MONEY MIKE, PHILLY PHIL & KENDU R.I.P.) all from the Millbrook projects, of which he too was a resident. After befriending and hanging out with the crew, Jazzy was later taught the art of mixing by a member of the group; know as the original Mixologist Dr. Duss. Upon learning the basics from Duss, Jazzy then went on to teach himself the other skills needed to get into the game and be considered an equal. By the time he finished, he was 16 years old.
With the fame of Hip-Hop careers and records on the rise, Jazzy joined up with another well-known crew from the Bronx, The B-Boys, featuring Donald D & Brother B. The B-Boys would go on to have many street hits on both Vintertainment and Streetwave Records, before Donald D would later move out to the West Coast to join the Syndicate camp headed up by then gangster rapper, Ice T.
Not to be deterred, Scratchmasta’ Jazzy G would then go on to picking up DJ duties for the Elite Force (The female version of Public Enemy), Positive K (First Priority), Frick & Frack (Romil Records) and Queen’s pioneer DJ crew Cipher Sounds. Soon after, Elite Force would disband and Jazzy would go into the studio with a former member, now known as Queen Mother Rage of X Clan.
After a chance meeting with Proffessor Griff of Public Enemy fame, Jazzy G was introduced to a crew called, Lethal Weapon, that featured Rappers; MC World, Don Juan, Will Seville, Destruction and Big Bo. This group would go on to record an album that would feature two singles and do a promotional tour of the US. After the tour, Jazzy would then relocate to Utica, NY, where he lived for 7 years.
While in Utica, Jazzy would team up with another Bronx transient, known as Prime Minister Lew Fresh. The pair would eventually start go on to have the number one Hip-Hop radio show in the city for four years straight on WPNR, 90.7 FM.
